Washington Park – innovative planning, a model for future development

Washington Park has received the Commendation Award for Excellence in Masterplanned Communities at the 2016 Urban Development Institute of Australia NSW Awards held in Sydney this week (5 August 2016).

The award is the second prestigious industry accolade in less than a fortnight for the highly successful urban renewal project in Riverwood North and follows its win at the 2016 Urban Taskforce Development Awards late last month where the project was named Best Masterplanned Community.

Collaborative partnership success – Mr Brian Boyd.

The Washington Park project is a collaborative private partnership involving property development and investment company, PAYCE, the NSW Government's Department of Family and Community Services and Land and Housing Corporation, Canterbury-Bankstown Council, St George Community Housing and the local community.

PAYCE's Managing Director, Brian Boyd said the latest award reflects the innovative planning and the collaborative efforts of all the stakeholders involved.

"We are immensely proud of what has been achieved at Washington Park and impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone to embrace the concept," stated Mr Brian Boyd.

"It is truly an integrated community who share and enjoy a wonderful lifestyle in an equally wonderful environment."

A Vibrant lifestyle empowers local community.

"Besides beautiful landscaped grounds and well-designed apartments, residents have some wonderful recreational and open spaces within walking distance and a range of community, transport and education services practically on their doorstep," noted Mr Boyd.

Mr Boyd said Washington Park has been a catalyst for empowering the local community to build a vibrant lifestyle that takes advantage of all the amenities and facilities within Washington Park and the surrounding neighbourhood.

High satisfaction levels resonate with local communities.

PAYCE's Director, Dominic Sullivan said the project showcases the urban renewal credentials of PAYCE in building cohesive communities which exude a strong sense of place and belonging.

"Washington Park has set a benchmark for what can be achieved through partnerships between the government and private sectors and community participation," he said.

"We are very proud of the fact that the project has a very high satisfaction level with the residents and the local community, who appreciate the positive benefits that have been achieved in a relatively short time frame.

Further developments underway at Washington Park.

"Construction is currently in progress to add a new community hub that houses the new public library, a café and senior citizens centre that will be of benefit to the wider community as well as Washington Park residents."

Mr Sullivan said PAYCE looks forward to a long association with the community and is excited about some new initiatives that are planned with the local community choir, Riverwood Public School and the Kick Start Café's local youths jobs program.

The latest award for Washington Park adds to a growing list of industry awards that includes best Masterplanned Community in the 2016 Urban Taskforce Development Awards, Excellence in Urban Renewal in the 2014 Urban Development Institute of Australia (NSW) Awards, Best Urban Design in the 2014 Sydney Design Awards and Excellence for Masterplanned Development at the 2015 Urban Development Institute of Australia (NSW) Awards.
