SPRING TIME FUN, FOOD AND FROLICS AT TELOPEA

Local community enjoys all the fun of the Fair at Telopea.
There was an abundance of free entertainment and activities for all ages at this year's Telopea Community Fair held in the spacious grounds of Telopea Public School. For the young ones, there is a petting zoo, jumping castle, climbing wall, roving clown shows, face painting and story time all courtesy of Council library staff.
On Saturday, 27 August in sunny, cool weather, following the traditional 'Welcome to Country' honouring the traditional custodians of the land, the Fair was officially opened by the Member for Parramatta, Dr Geoff Lee. Mr Lee spoke enthusiastically about the exciting future in store for the local community through a new master plan being prepared for the area.

PAYCE's Managing Director, Brian Boyd said his company was thrilled to add its support to the popular community event as primary sponsor.
"One of the important aims of the Fair is to promote and enhance community spirit in the local area and to celebrate as a community across a range of cultures. It's a great example of what can be achieved when residents and community bodies work hand in hand and support each other," said Mr Boyd.
"It's wonderful to see the local community embrace this wonderful annual event and come along with their families and friends to enjoy a fun-filled day relaxing in the sunshine," he said.
"Of course, we remember that community events such as the Telopea Community Fair, depend on a band of tireless volunteers working behind the scene to make the day a success, and I congratulate the coordinators and everyone associated with this year's event. Their hard work and commitment make it a memorable day for everyone," concluded Mr Boyd.
Food, Art, Exhibitions and Education - All the Fun of the Fair.
During the day there were exhibitions of patchwork, quilting and woodcarving. Sporting demonstrations hosted by the Brush Park Bowls Club and Dundas Junior Rugby Club.
The Seed Harvest Spoon educators were kept busy all day with garden classes for those inclined to green thumbs and those interest in learning more about the outdoor education program that Seed Harvest Spoon runs at Telopea Public School with support from PAYCE.
The Seed Harvest Spoon team are passionate about their gardening and love to spread word about the benefits of sustainable gardens throughout the community. Their gardening and education programs at Telopea have been a resounding success and much of the good fruit and vegetables grown are eaten by the children and their families.
The team from Seed harvest Spoon have been working with Telpoea Public School on PAYCE sponsored garden education programs for the children over the last couple of years and are also run garden education programs at other schools in the region.
Last year, PAYCE also donated a whole host of mature trees, shrubs and flowers from former development showroom sites which are now displayed around the Telopea Public school grounds providing shade and colour to school grounds.
It wouldn't be a party without a cake !
For those who wanted to whet their taste buds, there were international food stalls, a P&C cake stall and healthy sandwiches from the Australian Red Cross stall.
Non-stop entertainment of music and dancing was provided by the Telopea Public School Choir, Valley Voices Choir, Korean Pop Trio, Dundas Chinese Folk Dancing Group, Phoenix Dance Group and the Happy Salon Dance Group.

The day was a resounding success with more than 1,500 local residents and visitors thoroughly enjoying the wide range of free activities and entertainment on offer throughout the day.
The day was coordinated by Telopea Connections – a collaboration of various service groups and government agencies servicing the Telopea, Dundas and Ermington area. Dundas Neighbour Centre, Schools as Community Centres, Parramatta City Council, Family and Community Services, Hume Community Housing Association and PAYCE were all represented on the organising committee.
PAYCE's Director, Dominic Sullivan said the day was extremely well-organised and catered for a whole range of interests and age groups.
"Congratulations to the organising committee, particularly its chairman, Keith Reynolds from Dundas Community Centre and Pip Martins from the Schools as Community Centres, for their efforts and also to Telopea Public School for providing such a wonderful venue and setting for the Fair."
Fair artwork from the winners promotes next years Telopea Fair.
An art competition was held in conjunction with the Fair, with students from Telopea Public School and Yates Avenue Public School invited to create a piece of artwork that captured the colour and fun of the day.
The winners were Kyrah Armstrong, Year 5/6 from Telopea Public School and Shirley Zhang, Year 4 from Yates Avenue Public School.
The two winning artworks appeared on posters and flyers promoting the Telopea Community Fair.
