East Village revitalisation project soon to Open

East Village, a new residential, commercial and shopping complex soon to open at Victoria Park in Zetland has received a major industry award for design and innovation.

East Village comprises 206 apartments, a Coles supermarket and 50 speciality shops spread over 28,000 square metres.

The residents in East Village will have their own private sky park of nearly 7,000 square metres to relax in, along with the convenience of a variety of shops and services on their doorstep.

PAYCE's General Manager, Dominic Sullivan said the project is a landmark development for Victoria Park, offering not only premium accommodation, but an urban marketplace unlike any traditional shopping centre.

"The marketplace is one-of-a-kind, inspired by some of the world's leading urban marketplaces, such as Chelsea Markets in New York and Barcelona's Boqueria, which cater for local residents and the general public," he said.

"When people visit, they will be impressed by the quality and uniqueness of the design created by some of the best architects in the country."

Over the past decade, Victoria Park has experienced rapid growth, transforming from an industrial site into a vibrant new suburb that has attracted thousands of new home owners, downsizers and investors to its cosmopolitan style of community living and proximity to the Sydney CBD.

PAYCE was well represented at the awards, with seven nominations as finalists in six categories. The company also received a Commendation Award in the Excellence in Design & Innovation category for its mixed-use residential, retail and commercial development, East Village, nearing completion at Victoria Park in Zetland.

Washington Park is a joint venture between PAYCE Consolidated Pty Limited (PAYCE) and Housing NSW, providing a mix of social and private housing.

Washington Park presently comprises five buildings, surrounded by extensive parklands and a garden plaza.

The first of two buildings - for seniors living - were completed earlier this year and three sold-out buildings are currently under construction for private owners.

Ultimately, it is planned to have approximately 750 apartments across three projects, integrated into a very inclusive community, with a range of community facilities and activities available to all residents.

Dominic Sullivan talks about Washington Park

Accepting the award, PAYCE's General Manager, Dominic Sullivan said Washington Park was well-deserving of its award for Excellence in Urban Renewal.

"This successful public-private partnership with Housing NSW demonstrates that Government and the private sector working together can transform an area and deliver positive outcomes," he said.

"The project is a showcase for how well-planned urban renewal projects can revitalise an area and empower communities to realise their potential.

"The Riverwood community can take credit for contributing to the success of this innovative project, having embraced the concept and shown its full support.

"One example is the formation of a local community group, Residents Organisation at Riverwood (ROAR) who organised the recent Community Open Day at Washington Park that saw over 1,500 local residents enjoying a day of entertainment, attractions and refreshments."

Brian Boyd talks about Washington Park

PAYCE's Managing Director, Brian Boyd said Washington Park demonstrated how communities could be enhanced by providing social spaces and activities that encourage community interaction.

"PAYCE has been at Riverwood now for three years and in that time, has been fortunate to partner with a number of local bodies, including Riverwood Public School, Riverwood Community Centre and the recently formed community group, ROAR.

"These partnerships have helped deliver real results in community renewal and social inclusion that now form the foundation for fulfilling the long-term vision of a revitalised area and a closer Riverwood community," he said.
